Auckland Motocross Champs 2005:

The Pukekohe Motorcycle Club hosted the 2005 Auckland Motocross Champs on the weekend, there was great racing in all classes and two fine days helped make the event a great success.

In the Premier Classes raced on Sunday it was a King Bros affair once again. In the 500 Class - Shayne edged out brother Darryll to take three wins and most of the prize money.
Daryl Hurley looked very fast on his RMZ450 as he tried to run down Shayne after a bad start in the first race but came up short. In the second he was making good ground on Shayne again until some dirt in the eye left him with a DNF. Darryll took 2 second placings and a third to wrap up 2nd place overall.

In the National 250 Class - which was run in conjunction with the 500’s, Drury’s Nigel Smith on a Subway Yamaha took out the win. In the first race it looked like the 16 year old Blake Gillard might be able to take the title after an easy win.
However Blake was riding two classes and he seemed to struggle in the second - eventually not finishing and not starting the last race. Te Awamutu’s Mark Penny and Gisborne's Shaun Fogarty, both Suzuki mounted, came within 2 points of Nigel, but just missed out on the win.

The National 125 Class was dominated by Damian King on his Subway Yamaha YZ250F. Two wins and a 3rd were good enough for the top spot on the podium, 2nd went to the Tauranga Flyer, Peter Broxholme and 3rd to Queenstown’s Scott Columb who was the only Southerner to make the trip.

The club was very pleased to have two Australian visitors join in the racing with Rick Hume and Darrin Smart making the trip from Brisbane to race on both days.
