There was controversy this morning in the Catalunya 500cc
Grand Prix as Italian, Max Biaggi, attempted to take the
podium after being disqualified from the race. 1st
place was awarded to Mick Doohan, with 2nd and 3rd
going to Tadayuki Okada and Norick Abe.
Both Alex Creville and Jean Michel Bayle were taken out
in the first lap in an accident caused by Katsuwaki Fujiwari.
After the 1st lap Barros was leading followed by Biaggi. They
both ignored (or failed to see) the yellow flags,
and so engaged in overtaking each other. For this they were both given
stop and go penalty, whereby the rider must pit for a certain time. Barros
eventually pitted and took his penalty, but Biaggi did not and so was disqualified
from the race.
Mick Doohan has now taken the lead in the series with 210 points. Max Biaggi is 2nd with 189 and
Alex Creville 3rd with 182.
Simon Crafer finished the race in 5th position.
