Terrain:
This year the NWIH is going to be on a harder base with no real long boggy sections like last year.
Heaps of rocky sections though. There are some big hills to climb but heaps of power won't be an advantage.
(NOTE: There will be 2 deviations at 2 of the really big hills. So, for riders that cant get up them, they will incur a time penalty of 1 hour at each hill. When a rider gets to the bottom of the big hills they can just take the time penalty and not even try the hill. This will be better than not finishing.)
The first lap every one should get around and the second lap gets a bit harder and so on.
Sean was out there last saturday (19th Jan) looking at the course. This one hill took about 15 minutes to get up but a trials bike would have done it easy as he had to turn his bike round about 6 times to criss cross his way up.
Any way it will be a heap of fun just trying to finish it. If if doesnt rain too much it may not be hard enough!!!

The shot gun start of the race will be down on the river flat, but everyone will be on the same start line. Last year we had spilt starts for the different classes and this spread the field out too much.

The start itself will be called the Bull Rush and it will consist of a run up the rockiest river bed you can imagine for about 1.5 kms. The first person to get to the end of this section will win $100 prize money.

After this the Course this year will consist of 3 laps that will get harder and harder as the event goes on.

Mathew and Nigel Scott, the legends from Oparau, are putting a course together that they hope will even test the main man Chris Birch.

There will be some pretty hard sections to test the riders but these won’t be in until the second and third laps. The course will be changed as the event goes on.

Each lap will be about 25-30 ks long and after each lap riders will be back at the woolshed for refueling and food.

Riders will carry an enduro time card this year and this will be marked when they complete some of the harder sections. If a rider can’t make a section and their card isn’t marked they will be out of the race.

There will also be a time limit set this year for the completion of the race. The total time for the race will be 6 hours, if no one has finished the course in 6 hours there will be no finishers.

After this any riders left on the course after 6 hours will be directed back to the woolshed.
