Bernard Jenkin, the Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, has pledged that the next Tory Government will introduce measures to encourage more people to use motorcycles and mopeds.
Mr. Jenkin has stated that; \"The Conservative Party believes that motorcycling should be at the heart of transport policy. Motorcycles, especially those with smaller engines, are less polluting than cars and make a minuscule contribution towards traffic congestion.\"
He has also pledged to make motorcycling a more attractive and safe transport option: \".We will allow motorcycles to use bus lanes and advanced stop lines at traffic lights, where it is safe to do so. We will sort out the problems of diesel spillage and potholes which are an inconvenience for all road users, but a real danger to motorcyclists\".
However Mr. Jenkin has also warned that the Conservatives will be clamping down on \"antisocial cowboy bikers\", they plan to make it an offense to ride aggressively with headlights on high beam during daylight hours. They also intend to strictly enforce legislation that bans replacement silencers that make bikes noisier.
Apparently the Conservative party have decided on this strategy after months of consultation with riders\' representatives, including MAG.
Meanwhile the current British Government has announced plans for a crackdown on motorcycle thieves. The plans include an initiative to weed out unscrupulous breakers that are dealing in stolen spares. They are calling for a register of all motorcycle breakers. The breakers will have to keep strict records on file for several years of all machines that pass through their hands. They will have to see identification, such as a passport or birth certificate, of anyone they buy a machine from.
How about some of this sort of recognition here
