Townley Back in Business.

Ben Townley, the nineteen-year old motocross prodigy from Taupo, New Zealand, has regained the MX2 World championship lead after a faultless day in Lichtenvoorde.

Townley rolled onto the start line in pole position and starters orders were given for the gruelling thirty-five minute race. BT cleverly snuck by in the first turn to lead the race. He immediately put a comfort zone between his KTM 250F and the rest of the pack. Fellow team-mate, Tyla Rattray seemed to be closing in on BT but the New Zealander was not phased and upped the pace. Both KTM riders set a blistering pace however Townley had the upper hand and controlled the race to the chequered flag.

“I had a good start and pulled a gap in the open stages. Tyla had to pass some riders so he had some other lines going. Being out in front I was only using one racing line. When I saw him closing in I stepped it up a little and changed some lines which seemed to work as I pulled away again. I’m happy with the win and glad to be back in the lead. I’ve got to keep consistent and make sure I keep it now” smiled Townley.

As the gate fell for race two, Townley worked his magic once again through the first turn and within a few hundred meters had taken the lead from the young up and coming Italian, Antonio Cairoli. Cairoli challenged BT for one lap, much to the delight of the ten thousand spectators however the battle was short lived as Townley powered his way to a comfortable lead. The kiwi never looked back and rode a strong, smooth race and crossed the finish line for his second double win of the season.

“The second race was much more enjoyable” explained the youngster. “I felt really comfortable on the bike and had some awesome lines going. I just need to concentrate on riding consistently in the next races and make sure I keep building on the points lead,” said Townley.

Townley now leads the MX2 points table by sixteen points as the GP series moves on to the Isle of White in a fortnight for the first MX GP across the channel in four years.
