Coppins consistent in Teutschenthal.

CAS Honda star, Josh Coppins, has raced to a consistent fourth overall at the “Talkessel” circuit in Teutschenthal, Germany. Close to twenty thousand motocross enthusiasts turned out to see their favourite MX heroes do battle in the ideal viewing arena.

A slight wheel spin off the start line ruined any chances of a hole-shot for Coppins. In the first lap mayhem, Coppins had to avoid hitting Norwegian, Kenneth Gundersen and lost valuable time and positions to the rest of the field. “Lizzard” managed to keep upright and regained his composure. From thirteenth position, he gradually moved through the field, passing Pichon and Gundersen on his way to seventh. With three laps to go, Coppins finally made Belgian, Marnicq Bervoets his last victim moving himself into sixth by the chequered flag.

“I had to avoid hitting Kenneth so I went high on a berm and lost some positions on the first lap. It was not easy to close down the riders ahead as our times were pretty much the same. I could make the passes once I had caught them. A better start in the second heat and I’ll be able to run on top” said Coppins.

Coppins enjoyed a better start in race two and had the leading group within his sights as he and Joël Smets were pushing towards the leaders. Josh took a little while longer to get past Pichon and set after Smets once again. Gundersen was victim to a horrific crash towards the end of the race which placed Josh in fourth, just behind Smets, Everts, and surprise of the day, Brian Jorgensen.

“All in all, not a bad day” explained Coppins. “I’ve still got to work on getting my speed up. The pace is really fast and I know I have to step it up a level. I’ve moved up a position in the championship and I want to keep the momentum going.”
