Townley wins Motocross World Championship opener in Belgium:

New Zealand teenage motocross star, Ben Townley has taken home the laurels at the muddy and tormenting circuit of Zolder. BT powered his factory KTM SX 250 F to an overall victory in front of 15.700 motocross mad spectators and now leads the MX2 world championship points table.

BT was jammed in the pack going into the first turn of race one however pushed his way into the top five in the opening round. Within three laps, Townley was in second position and giving chase to fellow KTM Champ team mate De Reuver. The Dutchman capitalized on a good start and had put a gap between himself and his Kiwi contender. Townley was content in settling for second position knowing that there was another 35 minute and 2 laps race to come.

“I’m actually quite happy with my ride as I had to pass a lot of guys in the first few laps. I think I’ve changed since last year and am riding much smarter. I didn’t need to prove anything and second place was a sure thing with points in the bag” said a matured Townley.

This time a top start would change the roles and place BT in the lead as the pack passed pit lane for the first lap of race two. As rain started to pour, Townley succeeded in putting in consistent lap times and controlled the race from start to finish. The number thirty KTM crossed the finish line with second place rider, Stephan Sword trailing home fifty two seconds later – a major victory for Townley!

“This is what we have worked for! The KTM team have put in so much hard work over the past few months and it has all paid off. I had some better lines going in the second race and I was just trying to stay out of trouble with the track being so rough and unpredictable. My goal is to carry through this consistency for the next 30 races.” smiled the GP victor.
