BWH International GP:

Posted: Mon 26 Jan 2004

The Blue Wing Honda MX GP was staged at Woodville on Sunday (25 January).

As usual the meeting was conducted to a standard all clubs should aspire to. The weather was most inclement for Saturday\'s activities but Sunday morning, after a lot of work the track was superb. Plenty of ruts were to develop as racing went on, but no dust! (Hey, what a master stroke to have CAT on board as a co-sponsor). The very large number of spectators would have been a just reward for the effort applied by the MOMCC members and they were well informed on the days activities by the indomitable MX commentator, Neil Ritchie.

The enduro/cross country specialist, Paul Whibley, back on a Honda CR250, won the first round of the Honda Demon Dirt Dealers 250cc GP beating Shane King (Honda CRF250) in the process.

SK made amends for that though in the International Race which consisted of the 40 fastest riders, regardless of class and the results below indicate who\'s who in 2004. After a bad start SK just kept applying the pressure to take the win. A stand-out performance in that race was Michael Phillips riding a 125 (Kawasaki KX125) against the big machinery.
The Asian presence in the International was overshadowed by the Kiwi riders.

My, hasn\'t the sound of motcross changed. It was not so very long ago, the sound of screaming two stroke engines. The prevailing sound now in all classes, is that of booming four strokes.

Absent on the day was Honda\'s Cody Cooper, who had a good excuse. He rode in the Townsville round of the Australian SuperCross series on Saturday night finishing second in the Pro-Lite class to Mitch Hoad (Suzuki).
