Hey everyone,
Well we have had a super day today, Niki graduated today from ICU minus his
trachie and his feeding tube. In summary, Niki is a stand alone
(figuratively maybe we should put "sit alone") unit rather than a bionic
man. Niki is now in the Spinal Unit at Austin and Repatriation Medical
Centre, he has joined a ward of other extreme sportspersons and young men -
go figure.
Niki has discovered food today and blown away his trachie specialist and dietician by drinking directly after the trachies removal and eating amounts of food that would fill a fully able bodied person, even scratchy sour lollies, minus the presence of nurses mind you.
Niki is now out of ICU meaning visitors and numbers there of can come and go as they please without Nurses jumping on their backs saying "only two"!! But seriously we cannot knock the care that Niki has received over here, every person that has done any thing for Niki, and even those who haven't, do it with pure passion and pleasure. All the Doctors that have been in to see Niki, look at the notes and puff their cheeks out in disbelief. One Dr. in particular called him "a freak" that in itself tells us how close he came to jumping off this world.
Thank you everyone who has responded to our failure to update yesterday, we are sorry, thank you also to those who have e-mailed just to tell us what is going on in their lives. You would not believe how rewarding and helpful this is because it does remind us that the world is still spinning!

P.S. We are also giving Niki his cell phone, it is vodaphone, so he can text message and also talk (because no trachie) Number: 00614 15695709. This is in a few days time mind you. He will be getting this computer shortly too. We will definitely have the cell phone there by Sunday because it is Niki's Birthday on the Sunday 8th.
