To Be, or Not To Be:

From Tim Gibbes:

Regrettably the motorcycle section of the Yellow Pages 500 car/bike road races at Ruapuna, near Christchurch on October 19/20 has been cancelled.

Why? Not because of lack of LIVE TV EXPOSURE, $10,460 prizemoney & travel money, but because of lack of interest by riders, teams & distributors.

I am not willing to support an event of this magnitude without "stars" and top level racing.

This is what it was all about:
YELLOW PAGEs 500 – Motorcycle Challenge.

$10,460 prizemoney, New Zealand riders travel fund, trophies & prizes. October 19/20 – at Ruapuna Circuit, near Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand. In conjunction with YELLOW PAGES 500 car race, N.Z. Racing Drivers Club & Canterbury Car Club.

Motorcycle Classes -
A Grade - Motorcycle Challenge, fastest 40 qualifiers. Any class of bike.
B Grade - Motorcycles for next fastest 40 Qualifiers. Any class of bike.
Only 10 riders bothered to register their interest in the event, despite the date & some details being known for some months.

So without commitment from riders, especially the top class riders who can really do something to put road racing on the map & the public, then opportunity knocks but once.

Send me your:COMMENTS: or "hate mail".

------------- Then there's another opportunity on the weekend of January 18/19 for another car/bike event with delayed TV transmission at the same Ruapuna Circuit, near Christchurch.

It could be good too as four good Australian riders have been invited as well.

The only problem with this event is that is the weekend before the 3 consecutive rounds of the MNZ Road Race Championships in the South Island - many of the riders will be going to the South Island.

Well, :REGISTER: your names & commitment with me for this one quickly, otherwise another great opportunity goes away, again.

Tim.
