Kawerau’s Tony Rees finished fourth in the Australian Superbike Championship after the final round at Oran Park, Sydney on Sunday.

The New Zealand Superbike champion qualified third fastest and then scored two fifths and a third in today’s three races, on his Bikebiz Yamaha R1.

“We didn’t have the day we were hoping for. All the others raced last weekend and I hadn’t raced for three weeks. After qualifying everything looked good but when the flag drop, I found it hard. But the protest over race one’s result could change things,” said Rees from Sydney.

On the final corner of race one, Shaun Giles went wide to avoid an accident and both Coxhell and Stauffer passed him under yellow flags. The Clerk of the Course reversed the finishing order, but this penalty was not seen as harsh enough and protests were laid.

Provisional Championship standings (Under Protest):

1) Shaun Giles, Suzuki GSXR 1000, 351 points
2) Craig Coxhell, Yamaha R1 1000, 219 points
3) Jamie Stauffer, Yamaha R1 1000, 190 points
4) Tony Rees, Yamaha R1 1000, 146 points
